Welcome to the sensational world of ceramics! In this beginner-experienced friendly course, students learn basic wheel-throwing and hand-building ceramic techniques. Experienced students can deepen their pottery knowledge and evolve their skills through various surface designs, forms, and glazing combinations using our new glazes. Grab a friend or family member and explore the art of ceramics together. No class on Monday, May 27. No class on Wednesday, June 19.

Ceramic + Pottery - Open Studio Fridays

All skill levels welcome. Studio 3. Adults 18+.

Ceramics Open Studio Fridays is now available for currently enrolled students. Join us for an open studio and get independent time to work on projects, experiment with glaze combinations, and decorate! No outside glazes or clay permitted; please use this time to continue working on your current OAC class projects. Clay disbursements are not provided at this time. A Studio Tech will be present if you have questions! The Open Studio is designed as a pay-as-you-go or purchase multiple sessions ahead in increments of $25.

Drawing

DRAWING 101

All skill levels are welcome. Studios 1 + 2. Adults 18+

Anyone can draw, really! Beginners and students who need a refresher course will start with drawing basics from which you will gain skill and confidence. Learn about various drawing tools and techniques such as contour drawing, shading, perspective, and portraiture. Each class will feature a brief lesson about an artist to expand your knowledge of art history. This foundation course is applicable and carries over into other mediums as your artist journey progresses. A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions. Advance your drawing skills with Drawing 102! Using the drawing skills procured in Drawing 101, you will embark on exciting art projects to help them take your artwork to the next level! This session will include drawing landscapes with pen & ink and an intriguing montage of your favorite images. This course will also explore some of the most famous art movements, such as Impressionism, Surrealism, and Abstraction, for applying to your work and expanding your artistic perspicacity. The classroom environment balances open dialog and in-depth learning, where students are often surprised at their results. A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions.

This class will introduce the fundamentals of visual storytelling and experiment with creative self-expression through traditional illustration. In this class, students will learn how to take their drawings to the next level by establishing a narrative to their work that conveys emotion and message. Numerous illustration categories will be explored such as picture books, editorials, portraiture, character design, and more! By the end of the class, students will have completed a body of work that reflects their artistic journey through the lens of illustrating! All skill levels are welcome; beginners are encouraged! 6 sessions.

MIXED MEDIA

JEWELRY 101 PRECIOUS METAL CLAY

All skill levels are welcome. Studio 2. Supplies included. Adults + Grades 10-12.

All skill levels are welcome! Curious students are invited to explore the fascinating world of precious metal clay. This revolutionary product allows you to design using a moldable material made of microscopic particles of fine silver and an organic binder to form a moldable jewelry medium. Once your creation is dried, it is fired in a jewelry kiln; the organic binder burns off, and the silver particles sinter, leaving you with a solid metal piece! No prior silversmith skills are required; all are welcome! Learn about jewelry design and construction, and most importantly, have fun as you create. All skill levels are welcome. Adult evening courses are open to grades 10-12. Silver materials paid directly to the instructor are estimated at $65. 5 sessions.  No class on Wednesday, June 19 and Wednesday, July 3.

Linocut Possibilities

All skill levels are welcome. Studio 2.  Adults + Grades 10 - 12

Be bold and get creative with this new class! In this 6 week course, students will learn the basics of relief printmaking with linocut (linoleum block carving) and explore a few of the many possibilities that can be achieved with this unique but accessible medium. Learn how to design your own handmade cards, patterns, and fine art! Linocut is a printmaking technique in which a design is cut or carved into the linoleum surface. Ink is then applied to the surface area that is left uncarved, creating a stamp that can be printed onto paper, fabric, and a variety of other materials. Adult evening courses are open to grades 10-12. A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions. No class on Wednesday, June 19.

Grab a friend and sign up for this new and exciting printmaking class! Gelli printing is a new type of printmaking where you can create beautiful, original monotypes without a printing press! This technique creates high-quality prints with simple materials. Learn the basics using stencils, stamping cutouts, and pastels. Looking to make a more textured print? Add flowers and found objects to your gelli! Beginners and experienced students will love the process of making gelli prints! A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions.

Are you looking for an artist community of painters? Look no more! This painter-designed studio setting will inspire you as you explore the world of painting with oils. Learn to use oil-based mediums and paint with techniques unique to slow-drying oil painting. As drawing skills are needed, OAC offers Drawing 101 and 102. STILL LIFE PAINTING 101

Beginners welcomed. Studio 2. Adults 18+

The masters created still paintings, so why not you? Students will find understanding and develop new skills in the art of observational painting. Acrylic paints and mediums will add ease to working directly from life. Various techniques will be covered, including finding composition, blocking in shapes, using structural components, paint handling, and mixing accurate colors based on observation of objects and their arrangement and the effect of lighting. A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions.

Beautiful paintings are made from the eye of the beholder, but they can also be made from the eye of your camera lens! In this exciting course, students will learn how to navigate the different challenges and discoveries of painting from life versus painting from an image. Using acrylic or oils, students will have the opportunity to follow along with short-run projects or produce a series of painting studies. Throughout the course, students will learn about the process of painting (both from life and images), and explore color theory, shape, shade, and line. A supply list is provided at the time of registration. 6 sessions.

From hand-building to wheel throwing, beginners and experienced students alike will learn all they need to know about the art of ceramics. Throw beautiful vases, mugs, and bowls on the potter's wheel or hand-build custom boxes and jewelry dishes! Have another project in mind? Great!
